One of the NHS foundation trusts based in North West of England are seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor for their A&E department.

  • Providing better support for people and their families to self-care or care for their dependants.
  • Helping people who need urgent care to get the right advice in the right place, first time.
  • Providing responsive, urgent physical and mental health services outside of hospital every day of the week, so people no longer choose to queue in hospital emergency departments.
  • Ensuring that adults and children with more serious or life-threatening emergency needs receive treatment in centres with the right facilities, processes and expertise in order to maximise their chances of survival and a good recovery.
  • Connecting all urgent and emergency care services together so the overall physical and mental health and social care system becomes more than just the sum of its parts.

Job Description:

The post is designed to support an experienced middle grade presence in the Emergency Department of a hospital based in the North West of England.  The post holder would join a mixed group of clinical fellows, speciality doctors, GP specialists, and advanced care practitioners providing a 24 hour middle grade rota.  The post combines a mixture of seeing new patients, supervising FY2’s and GP trainees, review clinics, and teaching commitments.  Previous experience in Emergency Medicine is essential.

The post holder would also have allocated SPA time to allow for CPD and appraisal preparation.  They would also be expected to be involved in audit and quality improvement within the Emergency Department.  There is a designated time to allow CPD for all medical staff above FY2/GP trainee level, at least twice a month.  The post holder would be encouraged to teach on departmental, trust, and advanced life support courses.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Full GMC Registration

  • At least 4 years post full registration experience, 2 years of which must be in a related specialty
  • Clinical experience and competence in Emergency Medicine to middle grade level.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Evidence of good clinical skills as evidenced by references / portfolio
