A New Supporting Role for NursingIndustry News
A New supporting role for Nursing: The Government announced a plan back in December 2015, to create a new nursing support role.
The consultation has now been completed and the outcome is a new Nursing Associate role. This will bridge the gap between Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and Registered Nurses.
The new Nursing Associate role will enable Nurses to spend more time ensuring that patients are receiving the compassionate care they deserve, whilst being able to take more of a lead in decisions about patient care.
It will be essential to the success of the role that is has a clear entry and progression point. There will have to be clear guidelines as to what qualifications and skills are required to be a Nursing Associate and what will be needed to progress to Registered Nurse.
It is anticipated that around 1,000 new Nurse Associates will be trained by 2017 with 23,000 more Nurses available by the end of April 2020.
